Get smart

There are a number of useful things out there that can help you learn Japanese: Programs, websites, mobile phone apps. Today I am going to talk about one that I ran across a few days ago. The site is called Smart.fm and it is a site mainly dedicated to helping people learn language vocabulary.

It is a very “Web 2.0” site in that it has many social features (friends, messaging), is a very pretty and shiny site and lets users add oodles of their own content (People have created lists that follow the Minna No Nihongo series for example).

Their main learning application is a flash app called “iKnow” (I am wondering how long until Apple take notice :p ) which includes vocabulary, kanji, the word spoken and usage in a sentence of more. It is a great site and I cannot recommend it enough but you hsould really give it a go for yourself and see what you think. You can even use your google or yahoo logins to register and login to the site.

People who visit this site often (All three of you) will notice that some badges have appeared on the left on the site in the Japan section. These badges show my progress in memorising vocabulary so each time you come back they should be higher.
